Dell Technologies is integrating post-quantum cryptography into its hardware to protect systems against future quantum computing threats. Rick Martinez, vice president of client solutions, noted that quantum computers could potentially forge firmware signatures, compromising the integrity of servers and laptops.

The company has updated its Dell Pro systems to include a post-quantum algorithm within the embedded controller. Additionally, Dell has implemented quantum-resistant hashing for off-host BIOS verification to ensure that systems can identify and reject tampered code.

Securing storage remains a complex task due to the multi-layered nature of cryptography across hardware and software. Senior distinguished engineer Judy Furlong stated that the transition requires migrating all vulnerable components to quantum-resistant standards.

The migration process will span multiple product releases and relies on coordination with supply chain partners. Dell is working to ensure that all third-party components are updated to support post-quantum algorithms as they become available.
