DeepSeek released the v0.2 preview of its open-source agent harness, which now includes official desktop applications. Users can access the software via the official website or the npx command. The company notes that future updates may include changes that break current compatibility.
The harness functions as a runtime environment that enables models to act as agents by reading files, executing commands, and maintaining task plans. The desktop version bundles the dsh command, eliminating the need for separate Node.js or pnpm installations. Users can authenticate via a DeepSeek account or an API key, with account-based access providing web search functionality.
Originally open-sourced in August 2026 under the MIT license, the project is built on the Cordis framework. The architecture is modular, allowing users to replace the model adapter, tool registry, or agent loop. The repository has reached 240 000 stars and 29 000 forks on GitHub.
The platform supports third-party providers and custom OpenAI-compatible endpoints. It also serves as an evaluation rig, with the DeepSeek-V4-Flash-0731 model achieving a score of 82.7 on Terminal Bench 2.1. The latest v0.2.1-alpha.1 build introduces experimental compatibility with Claude Code Mods and new developer tools.
