UK-based startup Deep Green specializes in modular, high-density data centers for AI and high-performance computing. The company utilizes waterless cooling systems to capture up to 95% of waste heat, achieving a Power Usage Effectiveness rating between 1.03 and 1.07. Its Energy Reuse Factor across facilities ranges from 82% to 93%.
A 400 kW pilot facility in Urmston provides heat to the Trafford Leisure Centre, reducing heating costs by approximately £80,000 annually and cutting CO2 emissions by 100 to 150 tonnes. A larger 5.6 MW project in Bradford received planning approval on May 14, 2026, and is scheduled for commissioning by late 2028.
Octopus Energy Generation has invested £200 million into the company. This capital will support plans to deploy 300 MW of data center infrastructure across the UK, Ireland, Europe, and North America. Deep Green states that its modular facilities can be operational within four weeks, significantly faster than traditional construction timelines.
The company operates under the EU Energy Efficiency Directive, which became effective in 2024. This regulation mandates that new data centers exceeding 1 MW must report energy performance metrics and evaluate opportunities for waste heat recovery.
