Databricks CEO Ali Ghodsi stated that artificial general intelligence has already arrived based on pre-2022 definitions of human-level performance. He argues that the primary challenge for companies is no longer intelligence, but providing AI with the necessary context and access to proprietary data to perform operational tasks.

The company recently closed a $5 billion funding round in August 2026, reaching a valuation of $190 billion. Databricks currently reports a revenue run rate exceeding $7 billion, marking a year-over-year growth of more than 80%.

On the platform, AI agents now launch more than 17 million databases daily. The company is focusing its product strategy on infrastructure for semi-autonomous agents, with recent releases including Genie, Unity AI Gateway, Lakebase, and Agent Bricks.

Ghodsi noted that AI self-improvement remains unachieved. He identified four conditions that must be met simultaneously for this to occur: lower resource usage, faster training, better accuracy, and repeatability. Currently, these criteria have not been satisfied together.
