Dan Niles, founder of Niles Investment Management, maintains a positive outlook on Alphabet and Meta Platforms. He highlights that Google Cloud revenue grew by 82% in the second quarter, reaching $24.8 billion. The company reported a cloud backlog of $514 billion as of June, marking the fastest growth among major cloud providers including Microsoft and Amazon.
Meta Platforms is also under focus following the launch of its Muse AI agent on September 8. According to Niles, the application has surpassed ChatGPT in App Store rankings. While Meta does not currently rent out AI computing power, Niles suggests that developing a cloud division could represent a significant monetization strategy for the company's AI investments.
Despite concerns regarding AI disruption, Google Search revenue increased by 17% to $63.3 billion in the second quarter. However, Niles noted that Google currently lacks a direct competitor to the OpenAI Dots agent. Meanwhile, JPMorgan recently raised its price target for Meta stock from $820 to $920, reflecting continued momentum for the company.
The broader market context includes Nvidia reaching a record valuation on October 2, approaching the $6 trillion mark. This trend underscores high investor demand for AI-related hardware. Niles emphasizes that the critical challenge for investors remains identifying which companies will successfully generate returns from the substantial capital expenditure currently flowing into AI infrastructure.
