The US Senate failed to advance the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act on September 15, with 49 votes in favor and 50 against. This outcome significantly reduces the likelihood of the legislation passing before the 2027 congressional session begins.
In response, the Fairshake political action committee, supported by Coinbase and Ripple Labs, intends to allocate $30 million to oppose Sherrod Brown in the Ohio Senate race. Brown previously chaired the Senate Banking Committee and has historically opposed crypto-related policies.
During the 2024 election cycle, Fairshake spent over $130 million on advertisements. This included an expenditure of approximately $41 million to oppose Brown, who ultimately lost his reelection bid to Bernie Moreno.
The Stand With Crypto initiative, launched by Coinbase in 2023, stated that lawmakers who voted against the CLARITY Act may face consequences in the 2026 midterm elections. The organization rates politicians based on their stance toward the digital asset industry.
As of late September 2026, other industry-aligned PACs, including Fellowship and the Digital Freedom Fund, have not disclosed new expenditures to the Federal Election Commission following the failed vote on the CLARITY Act.
