The 1500-mile journey from Northern Wisconsin to Northern Utah was completed in three days using a 2026 Tesla Model Y equipped with Full Self Driving (FSD) Supervised V14.3.12. The vehicle carried two bicycles on the rear, which required covering the back camera to maintain FSD functionality.

The trip involved multiple stops at Tesla Superchargers. At the Wausau station, the vehicle experienced a 40-minute charge at 50 kW due to V2 hardware limitations. In Menomonee, the car utilized a newer Hardware 4 charger, achieving speeds of nearly 100 kW.

FSD functionality was lost for nearly two days following a departure from Minneapolis. Troubleshooting efforts included a system reboot and camera recalibration. Smart cruise control remained operational after a partial recalibration, while full FSD capabilities were restored after manually covering the rear camera.

The route included a detour near the Saint Croix River due to bridge lane closures, which the navigation system managed automatically. The vehicle maintained speeds of up to 80 mph, which the driver noted as an improvement over his previous Tesla Model 3, which required slower speeds to ensure range between charging stops.

The journey passed the Dave Johnson power plant in eastern Wyoming, an 817 MW facility. The plant was scheduled for closure in 2027, but the shutdown has been delayed for at least two years. The trip concluded in Lindon, Utah, located 30 miles south of Salt Lake City.
