Andrej Karpathy, former head of AI at Tesla, launched a video platform called HackerTube on October 31, 2026. The site aggregates 6,454 videos curated from nearly two decades of Hacker News comments, spanning from 2007 to 2026. The content is organized into 150 distinct topics.

To process nearly 40,000 comments, Karpathy utilized Anthropic's AI models. Claude Opus 5.5 managed the project, while Claude Sonnet performed the filtering. The process required approximately 504 million input tokens, with a 90% cache rate, and 7.6 million output tokens.

The platform features keyboard shortcuts, thumbnails based on video frames, and a data export option. Recommendations are stored locally in the user's browser, eliminating the need for accounts or tracking. Karpathy's manual tasks were limited to obtaining a Google Cloud API key, setting up a VPS, and purchasing the domain.

The curation process required videos to be recommended by multiple users across different months to ensure quality. This approach aims to filter out temporary hype. The entire dataset is available for download as a zip file, allowing users to customize the collection independently.
