Corporate treasuries have significantly reduced their Bitcoin acquisitions in 2026, purchasing approximately 5,900 BTC over the past three months. This volume represents less than 7% of the 89,000 BTC acquired by companies in July 2025, when the asset was trading above $100,000.
Current corporate holders are facing unrealized losses as the Bitcoin price dropped below $80,000. Data from Glassnode indicates that two attempts to reclaim the cost basis in 2026 were unsuccessful. The realized capitalization of Bitcoin has also begun to decline, reaching approximately $1.069 trillion as of September 15.
MicroStrategy, which maintains the largest corporate Bitcoin treasury, added 4,603 BTC at the end of August. Its total holdings of 845,050 BTC have a cost basis of $75,412. The company had not made any acquisitions in the two months prior to this purchase.
Market sentiment is currently impacted by macroeconomic conditions, including the first interest-rate hike by the US Federal Reserve since July 2023. Additionally, US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded net outflows of $462.7 million during the five trading days ending September 11, ending a three-week streak of inflows.
