Global enterprise spending on artificial intelligence is projected to reach $2,5 trillion in 2026, marking a 44 to 47% increase compared to 2025. This scale significantly exceeds previous enterprise software cycles, which historically cost tens or hundreds of billions in total.

Major tech firms including Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft hold approximately $2,4 trillion in AI-related commitments. Their combined capital expenditure for AI infrastructure in 2026 is estimated between $700 billion and $800 billion, with infrastructure spending overall accounting for $1,37 trillion.

Despite high investment, data from PwC indicates that only 25% of AI initiatives meet expected returns. A separate survey shows 56% of business leaders saw no revenue growth or cost savings from AI implementations in the previous year.

Companies such as TIAA and Carvana have begun introducing token limits on employee AI usage as of September 2026 to control rising costs. Nvidia forecasts that annual global AI spending could grow to between $3 trillion and $4 trillion by 2030.
