The gaming console market is facing a significant downturn, primarily driven by rising hardware costs. According to Circana analysts, Xbox console sales in the United States plummeted by 33% in August compared to the previous year, marking the lowest figures in the brand's 25-year history.
Microsoft has implemented three price hikes over the past two years. Currently, the Xbox Series S is priced between $500 and $600, while the Series X costs between $750 and $800. These price adjustments have coincided with a notable decline in consumer demand for the platform.
Sony's PlayStation line is also experiencing a downward trend, with sales dropping by 25%. The standard PlayStation 5 now retails for $600 to $650, and the PlayStation 5 Pro is officially priced at $900. Market availability for these units remains constrained due to high demand.
