COMAC, the state-owned Chinese aircraft manufacturer, plans to integrate humanoid robots into its assembly lines for large passenger jets. Chairman He Dongfeng announced the initiative at the China Unicom Partner Conference 2026 in Shanghai, emphasizing the company's commitment to advanced manufacturing technologies.

The corporation intends to establish a dedicated testing environment and training facility for artificial intelligence. This infrastructure will combine cloud computing, edge infrastructure, and end-user hardware. The company has not yet disclosed specific tasks for the robots, their manufacturers, or the timeline for full deployment.

The project aligns with a broader Chinese government strategy to implement embodied AI across industrial sectors. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology aims to validate key humanoid models by the end of 2026. Authorities plan to create over 100 application scenarios and deploy tens of thousands of robotic systems nationwide.

Founded in 2008 and based in Shanghai, COMAC is the primary developer of civil aircraft in China, including the C919 and C909 models. The company's production facilities are now positioned to serve as testing grounds for the national initiative to integrate humanoid robotics into complex aerospace manufacturing processes.
