Coinbase has expanded its 'Coinbase for Agents' platform to include US stocks and ETFs alongside existing crypto spot and derivatives markets. This update allows AI agents to trade across multiple asset classes through a single interface, supporting thousands of equities with fractional shares starting from $1.

Agents connect to the platform via Model Context Protocol or Command Line Interface. Users maintain control by setting spending caps and defining specific asset class permissions. Equities trading is managed by Coinbase Capital Markets Corp., with clearing and custody provided by Apex Fintech Solutions.

The platform utilizes the x402 micropayments protocol for on-demand data and service payments, which has processed over 230 million transactions totaling more than $54 million. This system allows agents to pay for market data directly from their trading balance without separate billing.

The initial launch of the agent platform occurred on June 11, 2026, with the recent expansion marking the second phase of the company's 'Everything Exchange' strategy. The service offers zero-commission trading for stocks, available 24 hours a day, five days a week.
