Coinbase has entered into a partnership with the global payments infrastructure provider Thunes. The collaboration was officially announced at the Money20/20 USA conference held in Las Vegas.

The agreement involves integrating Thunes’ Direct Global Network into the Coinbase platform. This integration will provide users with access to local clearing systems and alternative payment methods, even in regions with limited traditional banking infrastructure.

In exchange, Coinbase will provide its stablecoin infrastructure to Thunes. This will allow the Singapore-based company to incorporate digital assets into its existing network, which currently supports transactions across more than 140 countries and 90 currencies.

The partnership aims to facilitate international remittances, corporate supplier payments, and payouts for gig economy workers. Thunes’ infrastructure connects over 12 billion mobile wallets, stablecoin wallets, and bank accounts, along with 15 billion cards via more than 220 payment methods.

Thunes holds over 50 payment licenses globally to support international transactions across various jurisdictions. The companies have not disclosed the financial terms of the deal or a specific timeline for full integration.
