Mastercard has introduced Stablecoin Security, a new tool designed to help financial institutions identify fraud, scams, and sanctions risks in stablecoin transactions. The solution evaluates risks before funds are moved on-chain by integrating payment intelligence with blockchain analytics. The tool is delivered via a platform-agnostic API and generates risk scores that integrate into existing compliance workflows.
The product was unveiled at the Money20/20 conference in Las Vegas. Initial participants in the program include Borderless.xyz and Keyrails, both of which are alumni of the Mastercard Start Path blockchain accelerator. The company cited a Bank for International Settlements study of 593 million stablecoin transfers in 2025, noting that nearly 60% of these were complex, multi-step transactions.
Stablecoin Security is currently launching in North America, with a global rollout planned for next year. The tool builds upon existing Mastercard offerings such as Crypto Credential and Crypto Secure. Mastercard intends to further expand the product's reach by 2027, including through its subsidiary BVNK, which was acquired in August.
This launch follows several recent moves by Mastercard to integrate stablecoins into its core business. The company has secured a New York BitLicense, launched a Global Money Platform with BVNK, and expanded settlement capabilities to include Circle’s USDC and Ripple’s RLUSD. Additionally, Mastercard is working on AI-agent payments alongside Coinbase and Ripple.
