Citadel is expanding its quantitative investment division by actively recruiting machine learning researchers from corporate AI labs. The firm, which manages approximately $67 billion in assets, is prioritizing AI proficiency across its recruitment pipeline.

In June 2026, the hedge fund accepted over 350 interns from a pool of more than 115,900 applicants, marking a 0.36% acceptance rate. Proficiency with AI tools was a mandatory requirement for these positions.

The firm has deployed an internal AI assistant to support its equities research team. Additionally, the Global Quantitative Strategies group, led by Navneet Arora since 2019, launched an initiative in early June 2026 to purchase trading signals from external hedge fund managers.

Other financial institutions, including Goldman Sachs and Jane Street, are also competing for technical talent. These firms are offering salary bands ranging from $300,000 to $450,000 for specialized AI educators and machine learning engineers.
