Google is testing a new security feature for the Chrome browser on Android, which requires biometric authentication before the application fills in saved passwords. The feature is currently available in the Canary channel, specifically in version 157.0.8083.0.

Users can enable this functionality by toggling the Biometric reauth for password filling flag within the chrome://flags menu. Once activated, the browser prompts for fingerprint or other biometric verification after a user selects a saved password from the autofill list.

This is not the first time Google has explored this security layer. The company previously tested similar capabilities starting in September 2024 and introduced them to Dev and Canary versions in August 2025, though the feature was removed before reaching the stable release.

Current testing indicates that the implementation is not yet consistent across all devices. Reports from the Android Authority editorial team show that the prompt did not appear on a Pixel 8, even after forcing the app to restart, while other users observed it in version 157.0.8079.0.
