The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of China has announced a new initiative to improve vehicle production consistency and quality. This follows concerns that some manufacturers prioritize cost reduction over safety, leading to the deployment of technologies and designs that have not undergone sufficient testing.

The ministry is currently drafting a policy document to strengthen the management of automotive innovation and R&D testing. This includes raising technical review requirements and establishing new evaluation mechanisms to ensure that all new vehicle designs pass rigorous safety, reliability, and environmental adaptability assessments before market entry.

Regulatory oversight has been intensified through on-site inspections of over a dozen major automotive and motorcycle manufacturers, as well as six testing institutions. Authorities have conducted random sampling of vehicles and power batteries. Additionally, the MIIT has publicly disclosed two batches of production consistency issues involving 31 companies.

Looking ahead, the MIIT plans to implement a full-coverage inspection program for key manufacturers and testing agencies. The ministry will also accelerate the revision of industry standards for product reliability and environmental testing to prevent unverified designs from reaching consumers.
