The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in China has initiated a public consultation regarding new draft regulations for vehicle technology. The proposed rules focus on safety, operational standards, and user interfaces, specifically targeting advanced seating, infotainment displays, and interactive lighting systems.
The draft mandates stricter crash and reliability testing for innovative seating, such as zero-gravity, rotating, or fold-flat designs. Regulators propose prohibiting the use of these moving-seat functions while the vehicle is in motion to ensure passenger safety.
New display regulations target large-surface infotainment screens and complex head-up displays. The ministry requires automakers to assess driver distraction and crash safety, while proposing a ban on flexible or folding screens. Additionally, the MIIT aims to restrict user-defined messaging on headlights and taillights to prevent the projection of unapproved content.
The ministry has also reaffirmed its proposal to regulate door handle designs. Automakers must verify the reliability of innovative handles under extreme conditions and ensure the integration of redundant mechanical linkages to guarantee safe operation.
