The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China has launched a public consultation process to establish new safety standards for automotive technologies. These proposals will shape future regulations governing the design and functionality of modern vehicles.
Regulators are focusing on seating safety, specifically targeting zero-gravity chairs. Authorities are also considering mandatory locking mechanisms for rotating seats to ensure they remain fixed while the vehicle is in motion.
The government is evaluating the impact of multiple interior displays on driver distraction. Potential measures include banning the installation of foldable and flexible screens within the cabin.
New guidelines for matrix LED headlights are also under review. The ministry suggests that manufacturers implement content moderation for systems capable of projecting pixelated images or text onto the road surface.
These discussions follow a previous decision by Chinese authorities to prohibit hidden door handles starting in 2027. That measure was introduced after incidents where such designs hindered emergency passenger evacuation.
