China Mobile has introduced Open-RAIL, an open-source engineering platform designed to connect VLA and WAM models with robotic hardware. The system aims to bridge the gap between AI models and physical execution by standardizing control logic, state reading, and action execution across different robotic platforms.
The platform currently supports 10 mainstream VLA and WAM models, allowing for integration with as little as 50 to 100 lines of code. It has already been adapted for 4 heterogeneous robot models, reducing the time required for new hardware integration from weeks to hours.
Open-RAIL features a lightweight hardware abstraction layer that unifies communication protocols and coordinate systems. This enables developers to reuse upper-level logic without modifications when switching between different robot brands.
The system enhances operational performance, with joint acceleration standard deviation dropping from over 10 rad/s² to 0.1 rad/s². Additionally, it automates data collection during operation, allowing for continuous model iteration and training without extra costs.
