The Gongji-21 stealth drone successfully completed its first takeoff and landing on the Sichuan, China's first Type 076 amphibious assault ship. This milestone marks a significant development in the integration of fixed-wing stealth unmanned aerial vehicles into large maritime platforms.
The Sichuan, identified by hull number 51, was launched and named on December 27, 2024. The vessel features advanced technologies including an automated landing guidance system, an integrated power system, and electromagnetic catapult and arresting gear designed for drone operations.
Since beginning sea trials in November 2025, the ship has undergone stability testing and equipment calibration. The vessel's design incorporates a dual-island superstructure, where the forward island manages navigation and the rear island handles aviation control for drones and helicopters.
