The Shaanxi Aerospace Breeding Engineering Technology Research Center and Zhongke Satellite Technology Group have signed a partnership agreement in Xi'an. The collaboration aims to establish a joint laboratory for space biological space mutagenesis at Xi'an University.

The primary objective of this project is the development of China's first commercial satellite dedicated to aerospace breeding. This initiative marks a shift from the current reliance on piggybacking experiments on existing satellite missions or space station operations.

Previously, aerospace breeding experiments faced limitations regarding customized conditions, payload capacity, and orbital duration. The new dedicated satellite platform is designed to provide scalable and specialized environments for biological research, supporting national food security and agricultural development.

The joint laboratory will integrate academic research with satellite engineering and operational expertise. Key focus areas include studying space mutagenesis mechanisms, conducting orbital tests for plants and microorganisms, and developing specialized experimental payloads.

The facility will also establish a complete technical chain covering space mutagenesis, orbital testing, ground screening, and variety selection. Once operational, the laboratory will offer its resources to research institutions and breeding organizations across China to foster innovation.
