Chery has unveiled its new Volt-dragon ultra-fast charging system, which features a peak power output of 1.44 MW. The manufacturer claims that this technology can provide 500 km of range in just five minutes. A full charge from 10% to 97% is achieved in 6 minutes and 50 seconds.

The system utilizes silicon carbide power electronics and immersion liquid cooling to manage heat during high-power operations. The energy conversion efficiency from the grid to the connector is rated at 96.5%. The charging cable and connector have been redesigned to weigh approximately 2 kg, while the station's noise level remains under 50 dBA.

Compatible electric vehicles are expected to feature an 800-volt or higher architecture. While specific vehicle models were not announced, the system ranks as the second-fastest charging solution in China. It trails the third-generation CATL Shenxing battery, which charges from 10% to 98% in 6 minutes and 27 seconds.

The performance of the Volt-dragon system exceeds other industry benchmarks. For comparison, the Geely Energee Golden Brick battery requires 8 minutes and 42 seconds for a similar charge, while the BYD Blade Battery 2.0 takes approximately 9 minutes to reach a comparable state of charge.
