Chery has unveiled a new 1.44 megawatt charging system capable of adding 500 kilometers of range in 5 minutes. The system, branded as CheryMind, utilizes AI to monitor battery temperature and optimize charging speeds. In conservative conditions, the charger can still provide 500 kilometers of range within 8 minutes.
The technology allows for a charge from 10% to 97% in 6 minutes and 50 seconds. This performance places it behind CATL, which holds a record of 6 minutes and 27 seconds for a similar charge level. Other manufacturers, including FAW, Geely, and BYD, currently report charging times between 8 and 9 minutes for the same metric.
The company has begun the installation process and expects to have 100 chargers operational across 10 Chinese cities in the near future. Looking further ahead, Chery aims to deploy 20 000 charging stations globally by 2029. This rollout follows recent industry activity, such as BYD installing 10 000 units of its 1.5 megawatt charger and Geely announcing a 2.2 megawatt system.
