Chery has received approval from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology for a new electric moped. The vehicle design resembles the Yamaha Vino series, though it features an electric powertrain with a rear hub motor instead of a traditional internal combustion engine.
While Chery has not disclosed official pricing or technical specifications, similar budget-friendly electric mopeds in the Chinese market typically retail for around $300. These models often utilize lead-acid batteries with a capacity of less than 2 kWh, providing a riding range of 50 km or less.
The company is expanding its operations into the two-wheeled vehicle sector. In late September, Chery’s commercial vehicle division secured government authorization for motorbike production. The automaker aims to use this initial low-cost project to streamline its assembly lines.
At a recent event in Wuhu, Chery introduced two additional models under the Cinnox brand. One is an adventure scooter with a range of 150 to 200 km. The second, the Grow C3, is marketed as an EREV cruiser featuring AI integration and V2L capabilities for external power supply.
