OpenAI has updated the ChatGPT for Chrome extension to version 1.26.1005.11759. The tool now allows the AI to read multiple open browser tabs to answer questions, summarize information, or perform tasks across different web pages. This functionality is available to all users, regardless of their subscription status.
In the new Work mode, ChatGPT can interact with web pages after receiving user authorization. The extension can fill out forms, send messages, download files, and organize browser tabs. By utilizing the user's existing browser session, the AI can operate within platforms like Gmail, LinkedIn, and Salesforce.
The extension requires broad permissions to function, including access to site data, debugging tools, and browsing history. OpenAI has implemented a granular control system where users can grant access on a per-site basis. Options include allowing access once, always for a specific site, or blocking the tool entirely.
