The Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association (CESA) released findings from a survey of its member companies, revealing that 85.8% of game developers are currently utilizing generative AI in their professional workflows. These insights were featured in the CESA Game Industry Report 2026 preview, presented at the Tokyo Game Show.
The primary motivation for adopting AI tools is the pursuit of increased operational efficiency and productivity. To mitigate risks associated with quality control and copyright concerns, the majority of companies have implemented strict internal policies, including the mandatory human review, correction, and supervision of all AI-generated outputs.
Companies are also establishing specific guidelines that restrict the use of certain AI tools and prohibit the direct integration of AI-generated content into final products. According to CESA executive director Tsutomu Masuda, the industry is focused on building a secure framework that balances technological integration with intellectual property protection.
The full version of the CESA Game Industry Report 2026 is scheduled for publication in December 2026. The organization emphasizes that the industry continues to prioritize human-centric development processes while exploring the long-term role of AI in enhancing game production quality.
