CATL has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the German provider Intilion to install 3 GWh of sodium-ion energy storage systems across Europe. The project is scheduled to span the next 5 years and will focus on markets in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.

The partnership will utilize CATL's Tener Sodium systems, which are designed for grid-scale, commercial, and industrial use. These units are rated for over 15,000 cycles with a 25-year operational lifespan and are capable of maintaining high discharge power in temperatures as low as -20 degrees Celsius.

This deal expands an existing collaboration between the two companies, which have already deployed more than 30 energy storage projects in Germany since 2022. The new agreement aims to promote the adoption of both sodium-ion and lithium-ion battery technologies in the European market.

CATL continues to scale its European presence through similar agreements. In July, the company signed a deal with Alfen to deploy 5 GWh of storage in Western Europe starting in 2027, and a separate 2 GWh agreement with Solarpro for Eastern Europe.

The company's global expansion follows a period of significant growth. In the first half of 2026, CATL's global lithium-ion energy storage shipments reached 125 GWh, securing a 27.1 percent market share, while the total European market for such storage grew by 74 percent year-on-year.
