ARK Invest founder Cathie Wood expressed support for slowing the development of AI capabilities during a briefing in Sydney on September 15. She characterized concerns regarding AI-driven human extinction as ridiculous.
The statement follows a proposal made on September 12 by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who urged major AI firms to collaborate on safety standards. Amodei identified OpenAI, Tesla, and xAI as companies that should participate.
ARK Invest maintains financial stakes in several of these organizations, including Tesla, SpaceX, OpenAI, and Anthropic. Wood emphasized that the industry should prioritize practical threats, such as cybersecurity, over hypothetical scenarios.
The Nasdaq composite index declined by 0.6% on September 14. Meanwhile, prediction markets currently assign minimal probability to an AI-driven market collapse, and President Trump has dismissed extinction fears as a hoax.
