The Cardano Foundation has launched the CIP-0113 standard on the mainnet, as announced on October 7, 2026, at the TOKEN2049 event. This update enables issuers of native tokens to implement compliance controls directly within the ledger, eliminating the need for off-chain enforcement.

The standard allows token issuers to freeze, seize, or restrict assets to comply with KYC, AML, and sanctions requirements. These rules are validated by the Cardano ledger during minting, burning, or transfer operations. The implementation does not require a hard fork and maintains predictable execution costs.

The framework utilizes a core standard combined with pluggable substandards for specific token logic. Support for the new functionality is already integrated into the Eternl and GeroWallet wallets, as well as the CardanoScan block explorer.

The Swiss Capital Markets and Technology Association has recognized CIP-0113 as comparable to its CMTAT framework, which is used for certifying on-chain equity securities in Switzerland. The proposal was merged into the official repository on September 29, 2026.

The standard includes an unfracking mechanism to manage potential conflicts within the eUTXO model, where multiple assets are stored in a single output. While designed for regulated assets like stablecoins, the standard requires users to trust issuers, as tokens can be frozen or seized.
