The Cardano Foundation has released Mesmo, a native shared library designed to provide developers with access to core Cardano operations. The tool allows integration with Python, Go, Rust, and JavaScript without the need for a Java Virtual Machine.
Mesmo is built on the Cardano Client Lib (CCL) from Bloxbean. It utilizes GraalVM Native Image to compile Java-based code into platform-native shared objects, which can be accessed via Foreign Function Interface (FFI).
The library supports account management, key derivation, address validation, and cryptographic operations such as Blake2b hashing and Ed25519 signing. It also includes a JSON-driven offline transaction builder for payments, staking, and governance.
Currently, the Python version of the library is at 0.1.0rc8. The Cardano Foundation classifies the release as a pre-release, noting that APIs may change as development progresses and the library stabilizes.
