CapMetro has transitioned two bus lines, Rapid 800 and Rapid 837, to full electric operation. The lines now run at 10 to 15-minute intervals during peak hours. To support this, the agency opened two new park-and-ride facilities, Expo Center and Goodnight Ranch, equipped with overhead pantograph chargers from Camber Charging.
The Expo Center facility features 159 parking spaces and 8 bus bays, while Goodnight Ranch offers 64 spaces and 4 bus bays. These on-route chargers allow buses to extend their daily range beyond the limits of overnight depot charging. According to COO Andy Skabowski, this infrastructure enables the high-frequency service schedule by allowing frequent charging sessions.
At the primary depot, Camber Charging installed two 1,440 kW systems and 48 industrial dispensers, providing a total of 2.9 megawatts of capacity. This setup supports simultaneous charging for up to 48 buses. Camber also provides energy management software, remote diagnostics, and preventive maintenance services for all installed charging locations.
