The State Administration for Market Regulation has released the national standard GB/T 48100—2026, titled 'Test Methods for In-Service Power Batteries of Electric Vehicles.' Approved on August 28, 2026, the regulation is scheduled to take effect on March 1, 2027.

The standard establishes uniform procedures for assessing in-service batteries, addressing scenarios such as safety hazard identification and functional testing for used vehicle transactions. It defines testing conditions for exterior, airtightness, insulation, and thermal management systems, alongside estimation methods for capacity retention and voltage consistency.

This framework complements the existing annual inspection system established by GB/T 44500—2024, which has been in effect since March 1, 2025. While annual inspections focus on roadworthiness, the new standard provides a comprehensive methodology for evaluating the current health status of a battery.

The drafting committee included major industry players such as the China Automotive Technology and Research Center, BYD, Gotion High-Tech, and Geely. The participation of used car platforms like Chebaoshi and Dongchedi aims to address the lack of standardized, verifiable battery health data in the secondary market.
