BYD has officially teased its new flagship sedan, the Yangwang Altior, which is positioned to compete with the Rolls-Royce Ghost. The vehicle is scheduled for its live debut on November 5 in Dubai. The sedan, previously known by the codename HU, will be marketed as Altior internationally, while its Chinese domestic name is Dingyao.
The Altior measures 5,500 mm in length with a wheelbase of 3,350 mm, making it approximately 100 mm longer than the standard Rolls-Royce Ghost. The design incorporates elements from the Yangwang U8 SUV, including a front end inspired by ancient ding pots, rear-hinged doors, and a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor. It is expected to feature four electric motors and hydraulic suspension.
The model is positioned to rival the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the Maextro S800 from Huawei and JAC. With an approximate price point of ¥2 million, or $300 000, the company aims to expand its presence in the Middle East market. The brand has reported delivering 3,251 vehicles between January and September 2026, marking a 38.9% year-over-year increase.
The Yangwang brand previously launched the U9 Xtreme hypercar, which was limited to 30 units and priced at approximately $3 million. The Altior represents the latest addition to the luxury lineup as BYD continues to scale its high-end offerings.
