BYD plans to launch its first electric vehicle equipped with a solid-state battery in 2027. Stella Li, Executive Vice President at BYD, confirmed that the company is advancing its proprietary technology and production capabilities for these power units.

The company's subsidiary, FinDreams, is developing cells using an inorganic solid-state electrolyte based on lithium thiophosphate with chlorine. These prototypes, with capacities ranging from 20 to 60 Ah, achieve an energy density of 400 Wh/kg.

Production of solid-state batteries will remain limited in the near term, with approximately 1,000 units expected in 2027. Mass production is not anticipated until 2030, as high material costs and manufacturing complexities persist.

Initial deployment of the technology will likely target premium brands such as Denza and Yangwang. BYD expects solid-state batteries to coexist with traditional lithium-ion technology for the next 15 to 20 years.
