BYD has initiated a recall for 32 009 Shark 6 pickup trucks in Australia due to a defect in the spare wheel support system. The issue involves a potential for abnormal wear on the support cable, which could lead to the spare wheel detaching from the vehicle during operation.
The recall affects all trim levels of the Shark 6 sold in the country, including the Premium, Performance, and Dynamic models. The company identified that incorrect installation, improper positioning of the tray, or insufficient fastening torque may contribute to the failure.
Owners are advised to remove the spare wheel from its mounting until the repair is performed. BYD states that the replacement of the assembly is free of charge and should take approximately 30 minutes to complete, though service times may vary based on workshop scheduling.
The manufacturer is contacting owners via email and the official BYD app. Customers can also verify if their specific vehicle is included in the recall through the company's dedicated online portal.
