In Nanning, China, two children were filmed using the cable of a BYD Megawatt Flash Charging station as a swing. The incident occurred at a public charging site, with footage of the event circulating on social media platforms.
BYD stated that such use of the equipment is prohibited. The company has instructed technicians to inspect the station and implement stricter monitoring measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The charging system features a 1000 V architecture and delivers up to 1000 kW at 1000 A, with a peak capacity of 1500 kW. Due to the significant weight of the liquid-cooled cables, BYD employs a spring-loaded overhead suspension mechanism.
While the station remains inactive until connected to a vehicle, the swinging motion poses mechanical risks. The cable assembly contains copper conductors, communication lines, and cooling channels, which could suffer internal damage from repetitive lateral stress.
