BMW demonstrated the charging capabilities of its new iX5 50 xDrive during a public event in Southern California. The vehicle reached a peak charging speed of 464 kW, surpassing the company's initial estimate of 460 kW. This performance is enabled by the sixth-generation eDrive system, which utilizes 800V technology and new cylindrical battery cells with 20% higher energy density than previous prismatic versions.

The iX5 60 xDrive model features a 144 kWh battery, which can charge from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes. Under optimal conditions, the system can add 170 miles of range in 10 minutes. The vehicle is equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain producing 578 hp and 593 lb-ft of torque, allowing for acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds.

The 2027 BMW iX5 60 xDrive is scheduled for a US market launch in the first quarter of 2027 with a starting price of $79,800. BMW estimates a maximum range of 435 miles per charge. Production of the model will take place at the Spartanburg plant, marking the company's first all-electric vehicle manufactured in the United States.
