The bitcoin++ organization has announced a 13-day expedition to the Antarctic Peninsula, scheduled from January 24 to February 5, 2028. This event, titled Antarctica: Cold Storage Edition, is limited to 22 participants. The journey will begin and end in Ushuaia, Argentina, with the ship crossing the Drake Passage to explore various locations along the Antarctic coast.
The conference follows an unconference format where attendees propose topics for discussion and technical sessions. The expedition ship will be equipped with Starlink connectivity and a dedicated space for hackathons. Activities during the trip include kayaking, camping, and hiking, though the final itinerary depends on weather and ice conditions.
Pricing for the expedition ranges from $14,900 for a four-person cabin to $16,700 for a two-person cabin. Participants may pay in five installments or in full, with a 5% discount offered for full payments made in bitcoin. The final payment is due by October 1, 2027, and all passengers must secure their own medical and evacuation insurance.
Sponsorship opportunities are available, allowing brands to be featured on the expedition parkas provided to attendees. Sponsorship costs range from $5,000 to $25,000 per placement. The organization has previously hosted approximately 20 events globally since its inception in 2022, focusing on technical workshops and developer-centric discussions.
