Beyond Gravity, a Swiss space company owned by Ruag International, reported a targeted cyberattack in early October. The company described the attacker as a highly professional entity, suggesting potential state sponsorship.
The Swiss Federal Department of Defense and the Cybersecurity Office are currently investigating the incident. Beyond Gravity has filed a criminal complaint with the Bern prosecutor's office, and the parliamentary oversight committee has been notified.
While the specific data compromised remains undisclosed, the company confirmed a data breach occurred. This event follows a previous major cyberattack on the Ruag group over a decade ago, which was attributed to Russia but remained unresolved.
The incident coincides with political scrutiny over the company's future. The Swiss Federal Council previously attempted to sell Beyond Gravity, but the parliament blocked the move citing security concerns.
