The Chinese government has identified generative artificial intelligence as a potential threat to the nation's political and social stability. Minister of State Security Chen Yixin stated that hostile actors are utilizing deepfakes and automated troll networks to spread misinformation and incite social discord.

Beijing is concerned that the use of Western-developed AI models by Chinese firms could lead to the leakage of sensitive data. Consequently, state-owned enterprises in the financial and healthcare sectors are already prohibited from utilizing foreign software and technologies.

Chinese officials have expressed concerns regarding the capability of Western AI agents to compromise information security systems and critical infrastructure. These issues have been raised during discussions between Chinese representatives and their American counterparts.

Despite these security concerns, China opposes calls from Western developers to slow down AI progress. Beijing has criticized statements made by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, suggesting that his warnings about the dangers of AI leadership are motivated by commercial interests.

China is advocating against potential US bans on Chinese open-source AI models. While the country seeks to maintain access to these technologies, it continues to restrict the integration of foreign AI solutions within its own state-controlled industries.
