Aztec, an Ethereum layer-2 network, has launched its Aztec Tierra upgrade, also known as Alpha V6. This release introduces enhanced security measures, including formal verification of its proving system and an AI-powered security testing harness to address vulnerabilities found in the previous V5 version.
The network now features improved performance, with private transactions generating client-side proofs in approximately one second. Additionally, the new architecture reduces the time required for messages between Ethereum and Aztec from an average of two minutes to 12 seconds, facilitating faster deposits.
Aztec operates as a decentralized network with over 3,000 validators and supports programmable private smart contracts. The platform maintains a design without privileged viewing keys or centralized sequencers to ensure user activity remains private and uncontrolled by single operators.
The upgrade supports a new ecosystem of private applications, including the revived payments app zk.money, the AI inference tool Galactica, Nemi for perpetuals trading, the Nulo browser wallet, and the Rolling Chat message board. Aztec previously raised $17 million to develop its infrastructure.
