Axiom Math, a startup valued at $1.6 billion, has completed the formal verification of the Stacks Project. This open-source collection of mathematical knowledge, initiated in 2005 by Johan de Jong, covers topics from college-level algebra to advanced number theory and geometry.

The company utilized a fleet of AI agents to translate approximately 7,654 pages of the Stacks Project into 16 million lines of code written in the Lean programming language. A proof assistant then verified the code line by line to ensure logical consistency.

Founded in March 2025 by CEO Carina Hong, the startup raised $200 million in a Series A round led by Menlo Ventures in March 2026. The team trained its own models to perform this formalization, allowing agents to identify tasks and work in parallel.

Axiom Math aims to provide a verified foundation for AI agents to develop software and conduct scientific research. By formalizing mathematical results, the company intends to create a reusable library that prevents AI from generating unverified or incorrect content.
