Amazon Web Services has confirmed the permanent loss of data in its Bahrain cloud region, me-south1, following damage from military strikes. The region, which consisted of two availability zones, was fully taken offline by April 2026 after initial attacks in March.

Operations in the UAE remain partially disrupted. Out of three availability zones, one remains non-functional, while repair work continues in the other two. AWS has advised clients to migrate workloads to stable regions, such as those in Europe, since the start of the conflict.

The company has not provided a specific timeline for restoring full capacity in the Middle East. Clients with data stored in the affected Bahraini facilities are expected to receive further updates on the status of their infrastructure in early 2027.

AWS maintains that it is assisting customers with data migration and recovery from backups. The provider emphasizes that while distributing resources across multiple zones protects against isolated failures, it does not prevent data loss when an entire region is compromised.
