The XDM1241 digital multimeter features a USB-B port for remote control, utilizing the CH340 chip for connectivity. When connected to a PC via a printer cable, the device creates a virtual serial port in Windows.

The instrument is managed via the SCPI (Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments) protocol, which uses a text-based request-response system. Communication is established at a default baud rate of 115,200 bps, configured through the device's HMI buttons.

The multimeter returns measurement values as real numbers in scientific notation. To facilitate automation, a console utility called xdm1241.exe has been developed to execute the necessary commands and output physical values directly to the console.
