Apple is set to unveil its first MacBook Pro with a touchscreen on October 29 at 1:00 AM Beijing time. The new device will feature an OLED display and a redesigned interface, marking a significant shift in the company's long-standing product strategy regarding touchscreen laptops.
The laptop will be available in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes. It will feature a lighter chassis and incorporate the Dynamic Island design. The device is expected to be priced significantly higher than the current high-end MacBook Pro, which starts at $2,499, primarily due to the increased manufacturing costs of the OLED screen.
The touchscreen functionality is designed as an optional input method rather than a core interface. Keyboard and trackpad remain the primary input devices, while touch is intended for tasks like scrolling, zooming, and panning. The macOS 27 Golden Gate system has been updated to dynamically adjust interface elements based on user input methods.
This launch follows other recent product expansions under CEO John Ternus, including the MacBook Neo starting at $699, the HomeView smart home display, and the iPhone Duo foldable phone. These moves indicate a shift toward greater flexibility in Apple's product portfolio to meet evolving market demands.
