Apple will implement content moderation for public iCloud links starting with the release of iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3, macOS 27.3, and visionOS 27.3. This security review applies specifically to files and photos shared via the 'Anyone with the link' option in iCloud Photos and iCloud Drive.

The company stated that once content is shared publicly via a link, it is no longer protected by end-to-end encryption, even if Advanced Data Protection is enabled. This allows Apple to scan for harmful material, such as malware or illegal content, and coordinate with law enforcement if necessary.

Users who upload content deemed harmful face potential consequences, including content removal, account suspension, or restrictions on creating new accounts using the same contact details. Apple retains the right to modify or delete files that violate its policies.

The new moderation mechanism does not affect the 'Send a Copy' sharing method or links restricted to specific individuals. It remains unclear whether links created before the official software rollout will be subject to retroactive review.

Developer beta versions of the upcoming operating systems are currently available. Apple plans to release the final versions of iOS 27.3 and other updates to the general public in December of this year.
