Counterpoint Research predicts that the transition of the MacBook Pro line to OLED technology will significantly impact the Mini-LED market. Annual shipments of Mini-LED laptop panels are expected to decline by approximately 75% between 2025 and 2027, with drops of 38% in 2026 and 60% in 2027.

Conversely, the OLED laptop panel market is projected to grow by 86% by 2027 compared to 2025 levels, with annual growth rates of 50% in 2026 and 24% in 2027. This shift is driven by the upcoming OLED MacBook Pro and rising demand for high-end AI PCs, despite an anticipated 3% contraction in the overall laptop display market in 2026.

The new OLED MacBook Pro is expected to introduce touch input support for the first time. Samsung Display will serve as the exclusive supplier for 14-inch and 16-inch OLED touch panels, manufactured at its 8.6-generation facility in Asan, South Korea. Apple is scheduled to unveil the new models at the 'Pro and tell' event on October 28 in Los Angeles.

Design changes for the upcoming MacBook Pro include a lighter chassis and the replacement of the current notch with a Dynamic Island interface. Apple may offer both OLED and Mini-LED models simultaneously during the transition period before phasing out the latter. The starting price for the OLED version is expected to be up to $500 higher than current models.
