The new Apple M5 Ultra system-on-a-chip has outperformed the 96-core AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9995WX in Geekbench 7 benchmarks. The Apple platform features a 36-core CPU, including 12 high-performance cores, while the AMD processor supports 192 threads and clock speeds up to 5.4 GHz.
In single-threaded tests, the M5 Ultra scored 3774 points compared to 2578 for the AMD chip, marking a 46.4% lead. The Apple platform also demonstrated a 10.8% advantage in multi-threaded performance within the benchmark environment.
However, the performance gap shifts in real-world applications. The 96-core AMD processor maintains a significant lead in tasks that scale across many cores, such as Ray Tracer and Clang compilation, where it outperformed the M5 Ultra by up to 58.8%.
Apple architecture excels in media processing and photo editing tasks. A core component of this performance is the unified memory architecture, which provides shared access for the processor, graphics, and other computing units.
